LOCATION : RIVER LIFE ON THE THAMES
The River Thames is the thread that connects the charming towns of Henley, Marlow, Cookham, Bray, Taplow, Eton and Windsor. Its influence shaped the history and prosperity of these towns through the generations. Captured in many books the Upper Thames is perhaps epitomised by the wonderful tale of Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graeme and Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K jerome.
Today the Upper Thames is used mainly for pleasure with craft of all shapes and sizes taking to the water during the summer months. Each of these towns and villages have their own regatta, but only Henley is a sporting event of international proportions and a scene not to be missed.
The abundance of wildlife, waterfowl, fish and fauna tha live along the Thames are a testament to the enviromental work to improve this essential habitat. |
